High potential and gifted education at Coffs Harbour Senior College

At Coffs Harbour Senior College, we are committed to recognising and nurturing the diverse talents and high potential of every student. Guided by the NSW Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, our school provides a strategic, evidence-based approach to identifying and supporting students who demonstrate high potential across the intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains.

As a senior college in a regional setting, we also align our practices with the Strategic Directions for Regional, Rural and Remote Education, ensuring that our students, regardless of location, have equitable access to rigorous, challenging and differentiated learning experiences that inspire excellence and foster lifelong learning.

Our HPGE program is inclusive and culturally responsive, recognising the unique strengths of students from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, and those from rural communities. We employ a range of identification methods and educational strategies to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their personal best. The identification process begins with the Orientation and Enrolment process and continues through the two years students spend at the College.

Through strong partnerships with families, local communities, and other education providers, we strive to expand learning pathways and provide authentic enrichment and acceleration opportunities. Our goal is to empower high potential and gifted learners to thrive physically, academically, socially, and emotionally within school and beyond.
